2004 - 2005 Resdident Engineer - Inspector
Acumen for Jacobs Engineering - Parsons Brinkerhoff- Bechtel, BART's general engineering consultants, were charged with seismic retrofit and construction management of the total project. The plan was to place stone columns along side the tube to eliminate potential shift during an earthquake using vibratory methods. build the tube in sections, 57 in all, each averaging 330 feet in length, longer than a football field. These were fabricated on dry-land shipways, at the Bethlehem Shipyards in South San Francisco, from which they were launched, towed into the bay, and sunk in their proper positions.
